Update: Gainesville Story about how students will be screwed here
I happen to turn on the TV and see John Boyles speaking at the Gainesville City Commission about the upcoming Student in Single Family Neighborhoods ordinances. Now, don't get me wrong, I think the Gainesville residents idea that students are the worse thing in the world makes me upset. As on campus resident, I had to put with the noise coming from their constant BBQs on gameday. I had to deal with the fact that as employees they get closer parking than I did as "resident" on everyday basis. But what does this all mean?
Lobby Coordinator Lutin offered to the city commission a proposal that SG had. I hope that Lutin and SG will put his ideas up on the SG website. This is an example of SG using the website for good.
When I talk of SG opening up to the students, yes, there is the idea of "promised" positions, etc that need to stop. But since, there is a more general idea of opening up SG as well. Opening up information as well. If SG can show students through small things what it is doing for them. It helps to dispel the notion that cabinet directors/Secretaries are people doing nothing. In publishing the reports or listing their programs, students have a better idea of what is going on a minimal of expense.
Congratulations on our Executives trying to stick up for student rights. But they can't do it alone. They need our help. Not just SGers, but the same flunkies that we get out to vote each session.
I think that is something we all can agree on
