Gatorman 3:16

9:27 4 Bi-Monthly and 10 Days Ago, I had a dream that one day I would be here. Again. To back track a bit. Last summer, a FRIEND of mine sat down at Gator City as we discussed this year's election and the potential people. I swore that Weiss would be the man and that Moseley would be all eye candy. She insisted that Ryan was the man of the future. When asked about the idea of E.J. Walicki running, well she said he would make a great Treasurer. Well, she turned out right. But only after she railed against her boyfriends underage neighbors, who were hitting on him. She had them thrown out. Anyway. It's election night for the 2007 SG Elections. Spinal Tech is here and the Alligator Girls look like they are comfy in their chairs in the O+B. Some new R+B is on with Spinal Tech and I have local Gainesville products Chris McCarty Band, blaring. Gatorman misses Swamp Pundette, Reitz Rambler, and UFGDI and many others.

9:42 Working on my homework, listening to We Didn't Start the Fire overlaid with music from the UF Swing Club. The Alligator Girls have multiplied. I am not sure how they rate to the reigning Alligator Beauty, the Always Fab Bridget Carey.

9:45 No sign of Christian Duque. Does he dare show his face on election night?

9:47 Voter Tally Prediction, random number generator says 7666.

9:53 Random People enjoying their coffee and the music. CMB makes a comeback as I wait as the music has turned awful. Possibly haven't heard music this bad since I heard drunken people at the Swamp sing Piano Man.

10:02 It looks like the Alligator Girls might be trying to learn how to use "Blogger." Not sure, not that interested. Feel bad for the large amounts of studiers in the O+B.
Also looks like there is a juggler on the 3rd Floor. I kid you not, a juggler on a non Gator Nights evening.

10:07 Rumors are floating that the Department of Housing is going to throw a huge party and allow the residents to drink for a night with no punishments if E.J. wins.

10:40 It's empty but the Swing Club is still going. The Alligator People have multiplied. Where are the Warren's and the Bridget's? Sigh.... I feel like Danny Glover in Lethal Weapon. I promise this is my last one.

10:42 I wonder if the people sleeping in the Reitz Union Hotel will think it's weird that 200 students are going to descend upon the Union in 45 minutes.

10:45 Happy Birthday to the Alligator People.

10:49 The Swing Club is leaving for the Night. The Spinal Tech people are blasting the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Talk about a party with many faces.

10:50 Early Predictions: Gator sweeps everything except some small college. E.J. is the highest vote getter even above Ryan and Vanessa.

11:00 Still no drunken people from the Swamp. Somehow, I don't see people getting overly excited about this election like the last 3. My prediction is that Pants Party shows up without Pants.

11:13 Bring Sexy Back? It seems more than likely that Gatorman's readers will remember a contest held at the end of Spring Semester last year. In that contest, two of our SG hopefuls, Ryan and E.J., were in the contest. Neither did that great. Shows what Gatorman's readers know.

11:20 It is reported on the Alligator Live Blog that the Swamp has 40 supporters crowding around the bar. The question then becomes where are the Pants Party People. Duds and Suds? The Top? The Atlantic? Hmmm

11:21 I see 3 Pants Supporters. But they seem to be leaving. Oh well. At least this is a nicer night than last time.

11:26 At least 10-15 voices are coming. I here them.

11:30 My roommate's dream girl, Lacey Logsdon, and a Gatorman Maxim Contest Girl is here.

11:31 E.J.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11:39 Gatorman doesn't get the courtsey visits from candidates, but he does see the Pants Flag flying high. Promiscusus Boy is on the Stereo. Tommy Jardon is that you? Let's see who mugs for the camera come announcement time.

11:43 It seems that Eve? was in the O+B with her parents. If that was her, I might have found a new SG crush. Move over Miss Cosimi.

11:44 A major question just happened: Why are we here? Let's be honest! I agree go home you are blocking my view of the better looking people.

11:45 John Mayer "Waiting on the World To Change." Somehow I think the Spinal Tech people are pants supporters.

11:46 Blood Alcohol Content while increasing does not seem to be changing much.

11:47 The Alligator is reporting a total vote of 7692. Pretty damn close by Gatorman. Kevin Reilly smoking and drinking a bud light as he talks with a Pants supporter and a Gator Party member.

11:53 Pretty quiet and uneventful. Sigh.

11:57 Gatorman gets a visit from E.J. as he heads up to the front. The front is not for me. I hope no problems this year with the election recount.

11:58 Some old people are blocking my view.

12:00 John Boyles is here. I think. At least it looks like him. Ahh the memories of when John was a youngin'.

12:02 GO GATOOOOOOOOOOOORS!!!!!! Cheer!! Pretty Mild. Still no Glenda.

12:03 Brian Augunst is on the stage. Mild speech. Smooth sailing, Thanks to the Ass Election Commissioners.

12:04 Constitutional Amendment Passes, Renewable Energy Passes 78% of the Vote, Homeless Shelter Fails 35%, the Homeless are screwed over again.

12:08 EJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
12:09 Ryan and Vanessa!!!!!!!!!!
How shocking!!!
Pants are angry. Oh well, Go Gators !!!!!!!!!
MOSELEY!!! MOSELEY!!!! MOSELEY!!!!!!!
VANESSA is drowned out by everyone!!!!!!!
E.J!!!!!!!! Thanks the Pants Party!!!

Hopefully they will let Bruce speak....
Oh well it ends. Start your engines for 2008 and 2009 NOW. Agrusa, Reilly, Hardwick, Walicki, Logsdon, Asher? Get to it!!!!

P.S. Just to comment on something stupid like the I voted stickers being given out. I am a firm believer in the only way that Indies win is two things: 1) Qualified, Popular Candidates. 2) A high Voter Turnout!!!! Supressing the Vote doesn't help anyone but the Greeks. Sigh.

12:15 I am calling it a Night. Expect Links, editing, and other stuff tommorrow night.

Freshman Drinking Game

Well I normally don't condone massive consumption of alcohol.. having had the opportunity to go out a few times this summer, I know this would have made summer a lot more fun.

My apologies

Well it's been a week and I haven't updated here. Well, I am exhausted. No I really am. I am so tired that typing hurts. Moved on Sunday to a new location, moved from friend to friend for a night to sleep. Oh and a new job that ensured that I leave at 6:30 am and return at 9:30, desperately needing sleep.

I have some of the contest done. I am trying to get it done. To the person, whose computer I downloaded a photo to send it to me. You know you will read this before you will read your e-mail.

A quick thought for all those out there. Continue to improve the life of the people around you, I promise that it will be worth it.

And the winner is...

Senator Cullin. The arm candy in the picture paid off. Senator Cullin dominated this round similar to the way Senator Asher did in the first round.

Senator Logsdon pulled off an impressive second place finish as well. The arm candy pays off.

The last and final round will go up soon.

Just in case you cared, the overall rankings have a tie for 1st place (can't tell you who though). The 6th place person is only 2.5 overall points from the lead though, so anything can happen.

Make sure you vote.

Appearances

I won't talk about the Alligator articles about SG, some of them make sense. Some of them seem angry is the best word for it. But in today's editorial, we have a laural going to John Boyles for if nothing else appearances.

Now, I really ask you is going to kill John to have these forums? To make the process as open as possible, nope and while getting a bit of sarcasm, he is still getting laural for all his hard work. See folks, something as simple as that makes the open government people happy.

What would be realy interesting is coming fall and spring elections if the political parties would allow a reporter in to observe the proceedings.

Oh on another note, the gainesville city commission is trying to get the state to approve instant run-off voting.

For those of you that don't, instant run-offs work like this. Candidate A receives 45%, Canidate B 40%, and Candidate C receives 15%. Now, normally we would hold a run-off election a week or two later to see who will win and get the majority. With instant run-offs you rank the people in order. So maybe 12% of the 15% for Candidate C ranked Candidate B as their 2nd favorite and Candidate A ranked 2nd with 3%. Well, no need to wait that extra week. We declare the winner right then and there.

While I know Brian Aungst, Superviser of Elections, will go against the will of the people and not use internet voting, but he should explore instant run-offs as a cost saving measure. Yes, that does mean documents need to be re-written, but think of the money, time, and energy for everybody that is saved. Even if we did the "Secured" site voting, instant run off is still better.

Athletes and Facebook

Go vote.

I had meant to talk about the idiotic athletes that photograph their hazing rituals and then they end up on Badjocks.com. Most of these started invesitgations into the hazing incidents at their schools. I was always proud though that UF athletes were smart enough to know not to put that kinda stuff up.

While celebrating a birthday, two friends borrowed my camera and had a picture taken with an athlete. This athlete was below 21 and definitely drinking. When looking at the photos though, I was smart enough to know not to put that up on this website, as I felt that would do the player's and the school's rep harm. We have all seen many of under 21 basketball players enjoying shots at Swamp, XS, or whatever bar they get into that night.

Again, while I don't expect, these guys to be perfect. On some level I do expect them to be role models as they are student leaders (just in a different field than SG). I even expect SG student leaders to not encourage underage drinking by buying shots (new senator or not). Call me old fashion, call me a putz, but you can't say we are helping the admin in lowering student drinking and at the same time buy a round for the Summer B Freshman.

So recently, the Alligator exposed several athletes for their facebook profiles. Now most of these guys I never even heard of with Ryan Lochte being the exception. I just want them to realize that more than the average student, they are held to a higher standard with regard to conduct. Unfortunately, Tuesday's letter (once again) blames the media for doing its job, underage drinking, getting high, and public urination are not approriate. I am sure there is more than one lecture that these students receive during their time here at UF. Is it fair that these are small sport athletes (cross-country and swimming)? Sure. If there was picture of Noah sipping from a Grey Goose bottle, I hope Billy Donovan would kick Noah's ass for putting himself in that situation. Similarly with Leak and Meyer.

A Win for Students

First scroll down and vote for your favorite stylish lady. Votes due Thursday at 5pm.

It doesn't often happen, but occasionally, students win and Bernie loses. Honestly, the story about CLO goes back about 6 months. I won't recap the whole thing, but it is easy to say that Bernie wanted to shut down one of the lowest cost places to live in Gainesville due to safety concerns. Safety concerns that were going to cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, were fixed for a fraction of that. CLO said UF had a conflict of interest.

Now, the university is no longer the trustee and CLO and its Alumni Foundation is now in charge. This is a win-win for everybody. The university no longer has the potential liability on them. The students get to keep their Co-Op and low rent. It works out for everyone. The university no longer looks like the bad guy for trying to shut down the poor students house and profit off the land.

Great job to a decidated group of Alumni who found meaning in a small piece of their college life. On some level, all groups should have as a dedicated alumni.

Ladies Night

SEND VOTES TO GATORMAN-UF@HOTMAIL.COM

Vote due Thursday at 5pm.

Gatorman has sadly received no bribe offers for additional points for the chosen contestant. Pitchers of Beer/Bottles/Single Well Drinks are all appreciated.

This round is classic ladies wear. Prom, formals, sun dresses. Anything and everything that we don't want to see Gavin Baker or J. Clay Brett dressed in. (And if you have seen them in one of these, you have my deepest regrets)

The ladies have pulled out the best they could find in this round using a past SG Playboy winner, a possible Student Body President candidate, and the current Student Body President. We have fraternity formals, and just plain formals. We have beautiful shots at the fountains of UF.

Gatorman has favorites in this contest, so I will not be saying other than there names.

Round 2 winner

Round 2 winner is Editor in Chief Bridget Carey.

The voting was very, very, very close between 1-4. Remember to vote folks. Round 3 coming up soon.
